At Woking & Sam Beare Hospice we pride ourselves on the standard of our continuing professional development and learning for all staff. We have a fabulous team of clinical professionals and by investing in  education and providing them with a programme of learning,  we are able to deliver the very best service to our patients, their carers and families.

The training that is offered by the hospice Practice Development Team encompasses both statutory and mandatory training and specialist palliative care education. This includes updates on a full range of clinical skills, moving and handling, basic life support, health and safety, infection control, information governance and safeguarding adults and children. Staff also complete various e-learning modules, workbooks, competencies and take part in simulated training scenarios.

The majority of our clinical staff have or are working towards qualifications in specialist palliative and end of life care. The Practice Development Team are able to support those members of staff undertaking degree level study in palliative care topics. They also encourage staff to complete recommended online programmes such as e-ELCA [electronic End of Life Care for All], as well as attending the monthly Journal Clubs, Schwartz Rounds and lunchtime learning sessions. In addition, we actively support Registered Nurse NMC Revalidation and professional registration requirements for other clinical staff.

The hospice is developing a full range of specialist education and training to deliver to the wider health care community. By supporting healthcare colleagues and peers across Surrey, the hospice aims to build on its reputation as a centre of excellence, and support the provision of the best possible care for patients and their families.
