Clinical Student Placements

Pre-registration nursing students at the Universities of Surrey can join us for course-specific clinical placements. These are arranged through the university

We also offer medical placements for undergraduate medical students from St Georges Medical School as part of their curriculum. These placements are arranged via the Medical School. For further details please see our Student Information below.

Informal Placements

We offer return to practice placements of varying lengths for qualified clinicians and health professionals. We also consider work experience placement days for college students.

We can adapt placements to support individual learning needs and all applications will be considered.

Student Information

Our aim is to support students throughout their placement, and we hope this information will act as an introduction to us and our services.

Palliative care provides a unique opportunity to provide truly holistic care, the physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of each patient and their relatives being afforded equal importance.

Clinical Experience

You will have the opportunity to gain a wide range of experiences at the hospice. Wherever possible, you will be able to observe investigations, scans and procedures taking place.
Your mentor will support you to learn and undertake procedures as part of patient care according to your role and placement objectives.

Mentors

We allocate a mentor to you before your placement commences. Your duties will shadow theirs as much as possible, but if you do have some requests that differ, we will make sure that another staff member supports you for these shifts. You may, of course, change your mentor if you wish.

Your assessor and mentor will be qualified in teaching and assessing (such as ENB 998 or Mentorship Preparation course) and will liase with you about the timings of placement reports and meeting your  aims and learning objectives.
