Walking in memory at the Midnight Walk
Over 300 ladies dressed in their best 80’s gear and flashing bunny ears joined our annual Midnight Walk event on Friday 21 June to walk together in memory and help raise essential funds for the hospice.
The atmosphere was amazing as Ladies of all ages gathered at Woking Leisure Centre ready to take on the 8 mile challenge, bright pink Midnight Walk t-shirts were dressed up with leg warmers tu-tus and all things 80’s.
Marian Imrie the new CEO of Woking & Sam Beare Hospices who also took part in the walk joined with Richard Roberts from Trident Honda, sponsor of the event, to welcome the walkers and lead a minutes silence to remember loved ones.
Sarah one of our amazing Clinical Nurse Specialists also thanked the walkers and reminded them of just how important their support is so our clinical teams can care for patients and families through the most difficult time in their lives.
Afterwards a fun filled 80’s warm up was led by Emma Goodman-Horne from Emergy Fit, whose own Mum Liz had been cared for by the hospice only eight weeks before, the place was buzzing as everyone headed for the start line.
After a week of inclement weather it was quite a sight to see as hundreds of flashing bunny ears could be seen setting off into the night.
“We would like to say thank to everyone that took part in this year’s Midnight Walk” commented Marian Imrie CEO of Woking & Sam Beare Hospices “This is the first hospice led event I have attended since joining the hospice and the community’s support was fantastic to see. We would also like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers and marshals without their support we cannot run these events”.
Around 12.30am the first of the walkers started to arrive back at the leisure centre still smiling, singing and bunny ears flashing as they received their medals.
“We are delighted to be able to continue our support of Woking & Sam Beare Hospices” commented Richard Roberts, Managing Director of Trident Honda ”We have a strong family connection to the hospice and we are extremely lucky to have this service in our community”
Last year Woking & Sam Beare Hospices cared for over 2000 patients, their families and carers across six Surrey boroughs we cannot provide this care without the support of our local community.
