Sally Croft will be ‘Jeffing’ the London Marathon in support of the Hospice
The countdown is on for Sally Croft who will be ‘Jeffing’ the London Marathon in support of the Hospice. The strategic approach of alternating between running and walking every thirty seconds, known as ‘Jeffing’ has taken Sally through months of training to prepare her for the big day.
“I’m far from a natural athlete,” says Sally. “But I’m someone who loves to challenge myself. The marathon will mark the third of the London Classics for me, having taken part in the swim and the cycle race over the last few years.”
Sally chose to support the Hospice to show her appreciation for the wonderful care given to her and her husband when he was a patient back in 2010.
“Our first experience of the Hospice was when the most amazing community nurse came to visit us at home. Then when the time came, we both went to stay in the In-patient Unit. Having got married three weeks previously, the wonderful staff made my husband’s room so special for us, calling it the Honeymoon Suite. They even put chocolates on our pillows!”
Sally wants to share her experience of how important hospices are, not just for the patient but for their family and friends too.
“A younger patient often comes with a large support network,” says Sally. “They are all waiting for the worst to happen whilst still trying to function day to day. The Hospice provides such support to them, we all just felt so comforted and cared for.”
As well as her rigorous training schedule, Sally has been holding events to push her towards her goal of raising £8000. 120 people gathered together for a quiz night which raised a total of £900, and a silent auction raised an outstanding total of £4000. Despite surpassing her original target, Sally is on a ‘jeffing’ mission to raise as much money as she possibly can so that others can experience the support that she did when she and her husband needed the Hospice the most.
