Runnymede and Spelthorne Volunteer Awards
We are proud and delighted that one of our volunteers Gerry Allen was nominated for the Inspirational Volunteer Award at this years Runnymede and Spelthorne Volunteer Awards, Gerry unfortunately didn’t win on the night but he is an invaluable part of our team and a winner in our eyes.
Gerry has been volunteering for us since 2015 when he was inspired to give something back to the hospice after his wife Tracey was cared for by us back in 2013.
Gerry began volunteering as a Community Networker out and about in the local area meeting with key people building relationships, identifying collection tin locations, supporting leaflet drops, researching local groups and events that might be of interest to the Fundraising team and raising awareness of the care that the hospice provides to the community.
But it doesn’t stop there in 2017 Gerry volunteered at 33 different events from marshalling at the Midnight Walk and Santa Fun Run, helping at local fetes, to meeting dignitaries at hospice open days his support is fantastic and he is so often one of the first to arrive and the last to leave.
“I don’t think Gerry knows just how much his enormous contribution is valued by us at the hospice and we want to say a huge thank you to him” commented Gary Wood Volunteer Services Manger ” He is genuinely an inspiration to us, not many people are willing to take on the breadth of roles that he does and always with such enthusiasm”.
