Another Successful Hospice Woodland Walk

The weather played its part, with glorious sunshine shining throughout the day for Woking & Sam Beare Hospice and Wellbeing Care’s Woodland Walk on Sunday. Our charity’s second year of running the Woodland Walk took place on Sunday 25th September and we are pleased to have hosted the popular walk again, as part of our anniversary celebrations with over 300 walkers.

Starting and finishing at Fairoaks Airport, participants and the public could also enjoy an event village made up of locally sourced food and craft stalls and other entertainment.

Phil Wormley, Fundraising Director for the Hospice comments, “We are delighted to have hosted another spectacular event. Warm weather on the day meant the stunning route, set across the magnificent woodlands and wetlands of Horsell Common and Heather Farm, was enjoyed by many residents in the local and neighbouring areas.”

“Thank you to everyone who joined us on the day, at both the walk and Event Village.” He adds

The route designed to cater for all offered both a 5 and 10 miles option, as well as a dog friendly option, setting off later at 11.30am to the general walk at 10.30am.

It is everyone’s success

With something for the whole family, the event included a short and longer walking option tailored for families, individuals, and walker groups. All participants received a unique eco-friendly Woodland Walk Medal to showcase their achievement in this event.

The Event Village, run by Hospice staff and volunteers hosted an array of stalls offering a refreshment station, face painting, children’s games and activities, the popular Tombola run by Hospice volunteer staff members and more.

Thank you to Emma from emergy FIT and Bonnie the butterfly from Twisted Bliss who helped warm up and entertain the walkers on the day.

Phil comments: “We are grateful for Trident Honda as our main headline sponsor and Fairoaks Airport for hosting this year’s event and their continued support. I am also grateful for the fundraising team who worked tirelessly to put this event together, and the many volunteers who have helped make this a success.”

While there was no set fundraising target for participants, they were encouraged to raise money through sponsorship from family, friends and colleagues. Here are some examples of how the funds raised by these individuals could go towards the following areas of care the Hospice provides:

£19 could pay for one hour of care in our In-Patient Unit.
£28 could pay for a 1-hour Physio Session for our Patients.
£42 could pay for a Counselling Session for a child.
